This year it’s going to be a deep dive
into—an excavation of my mind,
so much so that in the end even I
might be surprised about what I will find.

Snow angel

Predawn today it snowed a little,
scarcely enough to make footprints in,
let alone to make a snow angel.

It’s been ages since I last made one
as it doesn’t snow here anymore;
I actually don’t remember when.

But the thought reminded me of you,
how you came around in the summer
in your new white car in order to

drop by my order, allegedly
(whatever you claim), and that image
now’s stuck in my mind eternally

’cause I had never before seen you
all dressed in white—how unusual since
your preferred colours are black and blue.

You were like a snow angel indeed—
heavenly handsome yet icy cold
and with a frozen heart and no heed

for my feelings to you, which but rips
my soul through. You turned to an angel
of my personal apocalypse.

Perpetuum

I never meant anything for anyone
but a bored-time flirt and temporary fun,
and that is why every guy immediately ran
away when I developed feelings for him.
Alas, my chances sure seem slimmer than slim
that I’d be ever loved by the guy of whom I dream.

with your streak of no drinking?
It should be a year now, right,
since you started this non-fight?

What motivated you to
make this resolution as
if you had been some old souse?

Just don’t tell me that it were
the memories, still in blur,
of how we two met and you,
quite drunk, asked me to date you.

So you resolved to abstain
lest you ever make again
the same mistake of asking
a girl out drunk and getting

stuck with her for many years
(the worst of your biggest fears!)
as she falls in love with you
just like you first wanted to.
