Love is a swear word

Love is the worst swear word
when it comes from my mouth
(and heart) towards a guy,
as to him, God knows why,
it always sounds uncouth,
which leaves us both hurt.

Love is an awful feeling
of internal burn and scathe
I get every time I try
to give it a chance and fly,
taking the feared leap of faith,
only to hit the ceiling.

Love is a devil’s curse,
marked with hope at the start,
but then all goes awry,
with nought to do save cry
as my dreams fall apart.
There’s really nothing worse.
