You say you could never ever do
the reddish-brown raspberry cold brew,
that it was only a one night thing
of a long-forgotten lonely spring.

 

Then in the summer you claimed to love
something lighter—a flat white—sort of.
But that was never really your thing!
I knew all along you were lying.

 

This autumn a double black it is,
like you used to love in early teens.
Practically identical it is,
after four different kinds in three years.
